A Bristol law firm has an opportunity for an experienced Law Costs Drafter dealing with all aspects of costs litigation.
The firm has a national coverage but, this role offers remote working 4 days per week, the successful candidate will be required to attend their Bristol office 1 day per week.


The Law Cost Drafter will manage a caseload of files, ensuring they meet SLAs, striving for efficiencies, and dealing with novel or technical issues as and when necessary together with advising on those issues where required. The work involves dealing with all areas of costs litigation, including dealing with higher value claims/complex claims or cases with technical disputes.


Requirements


The successful candidate will be an experienced, competent Costs Drafter to take on a technical role in the Costs team dealing with a variety of cost issues and will need to have strong costs technical skills; be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines; be able to prioritise and be organised; be able to provide excellent customer service to case handlers; and work with minimal supervision. A good working knowledge of the CPR and be able to advise clients on technical costs issues at all levels will be required as well as support to colleagues
In particular, the successful candidate will have a good knowledge of the costs budget rules and have at least two years' experience preparing and negotiating costs budgets in personal injury, civil or clinical negligence claims.

The Role
The work requires managing an investigatory caseload where it is alleged that the registrant's fitness to practise is impaired through misconduct, competence or health issues and preparing those cases for hearings before panels and committees of the relevant regulators. The work is varied, challenging and rewarding and the cases cover everything from large-scale fraud or multi-patient clinical failings through to inappropriate sexualised behaviour.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Associate Solicitors carry out the day-to-day conduct of the regulator's cases under the supervision of a partner and with the assistance of a paralegal. In summary, solicitor caseholders:
·Prepare the case plan at the outset of the case;
·Prepare advice on procedural or evidential issues;
·Correspond with the defence;
·Ensure that all factual evidence required to prove the allegations is obtained;
·Are the key point of contact for all witnesses;
·Interview key witnesses in complex cases or if the witness deals with novel or sensitive issues or is a vulnerable witness;
·Supervise witness statements taken by paralegals;
·Instruct experts and identify if any amendments are necessary to the expert report;
·Prepare instructions to counsel (both our internal advocates and the external bar);
·Attend conferences with counsel;
·Ensure that all action points following the conference are completed;
·Either draft the charge or review the draft charge against the evidence if drafted by counsel;
·Carry out disclosure of unused material;
·Liaise with the defence in the run up to the hearing;
·Supervise the preparation of the hearing bundle by the paralegal;
·Attend hearing at outset only, unless there are legal issues or problems with the case;
·Seek instructions from the client on any issues that arise in the course of the hearing;
·Prepare final reports at the conclusion of a case; and
·Present cases to Practice Committees/Interim Orders Committees.
 
The Candidate
Whilst previous experience in the field of regulation and professional discipline is strongly preferred, it is not essential.Candidates will however be expected to be able to demonstrate at interview that they are self-motivated and commercially minded, as well as having good interpersonal skills and being able to work effectively in teams.

A very successful Oxfordshire law firm has a requirement for a Risk and Compliance Solicitor.
 
The Firm

The Role
Initially, this would be in the role of an assistant working closely with the Risk and
Compliance Partner. For the right person there will be career progression as it forms part of
a succession planning strategy.
 
The appointed person will:
Preferably have experience of fee earning legal work;
Preferably be qualified with at least 5 years PQE ;
Work independently but also with other members in the team;
Be experienced in the following areas of legal compliance work:
SRA Standards and Regulations, the SRA Code of Conduct in particular;
Money Laundering Regulations, Proceeds of Crime Act and AML compliance
generally;
Data Protection;
Risk management generally.
Be prepared where necessary to draft and implement policies and procedures;
Be expected to assist the Risk & Compliance Manager with:
updating policies and procedures, terms of business, engagement letters etc.;
maintaining the firm's central registers;
preparing and delivering risk and compliance training;
day to day queries on conflicts of interest/confidentiality, professional;
ethics/conduct and risk management generally;
source of funds/wealth checks.
 
The Candidate
Ideally, they would like to attract a lawyer with previous fee earning experience, who now has
a background in risk and compliance or has solid experience in a fee-earning role and would
like to change their work dynamic. It could be someone with the requisite experience in
either private practice or an in-house role.
The successful candidate may be from a large regional or London firm who wishes to join a
progressive, forward thinking firm which is based in a part of the country offering a good
life/work balance.

The appointed person will:
Demonstrate technical proficiency in all aspects of the law and regulations involved in
the above work.

The Role
The work requires managing an investigatory caseload where it is alleged that the registrant's fitness to practise is impaired through misconduct, competence or health issues and preparing those cases for hearings before panels and committees of the relevant regulators. The work is varied, challenging and rewarding and the cases cover everything from large-scale fraud or multi-patient clinical failings through to inappropriate sexualised behaviour.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Solicitors carry out the day-to-day conduct of the regulator's cases under the supervision of a partner and with the assistance of a paralegal. In summary, solicitor caseholders:
·Prepare the case plan at the outset of the case;
·Prepare advice on procedural or evidential issues;
·Correspond with the defence;
·Ensure that all factual evidence required to prove the allegations is obtained;
·Are the key point of contact for all witnesses;
·Interview key witnesses in complex cases or if the witness deals with novel or sensitive issues or is a vulnerable witness;
·Supervise witness statements taken by paralegals;
·Instruct experts and identify if any amendments are necessary to the expert report;
·Prepare instructions to counsel (both our internal advocates and the external bar);
·Attend conferences with counsel;
·Ensure that all action points following the conference are completed;
·Either draft the charge or review the draft charge against the evidence if drafted by counsel;
·Carry out disclosure of unused material;
·Liaise with the defence in the run up to the hearing;
·Supervise the preparation of the hearing bundle by the paralegal;
·Attend hearing at outset only, unless there are legal issues or problems with the case;
·Seek instructions from the client on any issues that arise in the course of the hearing;
·Prepare final reports at the conclusion of a case; and
·Present cases to Practice Committees/Interim Orders Committees.
 
The Candidate
